Pat Cummins Expected to Feature a Major Role in the Ashes

Test match action

Pat Cummins has claimed 309 wickets in 71 five-day games with an average of 22.10.

Australia's chief selector the selector has confirmed that captain Pat Cummins will have a crucial role in the upcoming Ashes series.

Rumors had circulated that the 32-year-old might sit out due to a persistent back stress problem that remained unresolved.

Initial reports from the squad suggested no final decision had been made regarding his involvement, with the extended contest scheduled to begin on the 21st of November in Perth.

Bailey expressed that Cummins is "building up" and was "optimistic" about the likelihood of taking part.

"We know that the window is narrowing and multiple considerations at play, not only the physical problem, but further aspects," Bailey remarked.

"It's positive. [We are] really confident that he'll participate in a major part. Ideally from the opening match. Should that not happen, then we'll pick it up."

Past Concerns

The captain missed the ODI and T20 games against both Asian and Trans-Tasman rivals in the previous weeks after medical tests showed a stress reaction in his back.

Previous incidents include of recurring issues, with recurrences in multiple past seasons leading to absences from several home seasons in a limited period.

He emphasized he would be ""aggressive" and "take risks" in his recovery plan to secure his spot for the series.

The selector indicated that there was no confirmation if Cummins had begun bowling as part of his rehabilitation but admitted it was "getting tight" for him to recover fully for the opener.

Contingency Plans

If he's unavailable, ex-skipper Smith will lead the side.

All-rounder Cameron Green was withdrawn recently from the ODI lineup for their limited-overs matches against the subcontinent side as a preventive step because of an abdominal issue.

He labeled it as a "slight concern and stated that Green will play in the Sheffield Shield, so will be "in a good place to be ready to bowl."

"We put so much time has gone into creating the schedule for him to participate for the first Test as an dual-role player," the selector detailed.

"He was only going to play the starting games anyway. His aggressive style the willow in shorter formats, even if it just sets him back for 24 more hours, the choice was made to adopt a safer strategy."
