A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his first trophy for 882 days with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has endured a difficult season, winning just one match at the major tournaments and suffering a meltdown at the American major.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and issues with his serving in specific - resulted in him falling of the world's top 10 and ultimately splitting with long-time coach Cervara.

Currently collaborating with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily improved in the recent weeks - peaking in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over challenger Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's first trophy following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court from spring of the previous year.

The win also means he has secured twenty-one championships at 21 various tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my two daughters at once, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," stated ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six championship matches, comprising in the German tournament in the past months.

The player's counter-punching play style and regular emotional displays on the tennis court had caused some to doubt if his ability to perform at the top level was finished.

However the player has made changes in the past month, striving to advance forward and perform assertively, supported by an enhanced serve.

The champion recovered from a disadvantage in the first set against the challenging opponent, securing four of the concluding five exchanges to take the lead.

The competitors exchanged breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour title, gained dominance to create a final set.

The opponent saved four initial chances in a close final set before the Russian secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.

Appropriately, he earned victory with a rally at the net area, with his opponent incapable to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
